getting ready to start North

CLICK HERE TO SEE PICTURES I TOOK HERE

We have been here almost a week now and it is time to get ready to head north. We have done some running around and I have found places to go kayaking. I kayaked around this island and have done some more in two of the state parks. It has been fun but it is getting way to warm for me. Been in the high 80's with lots of humidity. People are also starting to head north from this park. Guess it is that time of year. We will be heading to Peace River in Wauchula for a week then to Three Flags in Wildwood for another week then up to South Carolina for two weeks. Will try to keep you all up to date as we move north.

I have added a link at the top of the page of the pictures I have taken.

Ok we are in the Keys

We left Arcadia FL on Tuesday and drove to Big Pine Key and are staying a Sunshine RV Park. It is an Encore park and we get a good discount here. Normal rate is almost $100.00 a night and we are here for $25.00. That is the only reason we come down here. hehehe The weather is nice but a bit hot for me and even Gloria said it was hot yesterday. It was 85 and it will be 89 today. We did take a bike ride to Key West yesterday and had a good time checking things out. Went to Fort Zachery Taylor State Park and toured the fort again. Also went to Key West Lighthouse but thought it was over priced for what it was. I will add more pictures when I get them all uploaded.

Heading South

Ok we are working our way south to the keys. We left Clermont FL yesterday and are now in Arcadia FL. We are staying at Toby's RV park and will be here for 10 days. Then we head for the Keys. Looking forward to that stay. Today we drove to Sarasota FL. to go to Myakka River State Park. It is a 37,000 acre park with lost of trails for walking an biking. There are two lakes and the Myakka river runs through it. There are lots animals but most are out around dark. But we did see some gators but they were some distance out in the lake. May go back so I can Kayak some of the river. There is also a Canopy Walking trail and Tower. I climbed the tower and got some pictures from the top about 74 feet in the air.

Drive to Cocoa Beach

CLICK HERE TO SEE PICTURE OF THIS TRIP

Took a drive to Cocoa Beach on the east cost of Florida. It was a long drive but worth is. The beach is great and there were not too many people.

Then on the way back we saw a sign for a town called Christmas FL. So we decided to go see it and found Fort Christmas Historical Park. We found that the town started from a fort that was built during the second Seminole War. It was built as a supply depot in 1837 and did not last long as the abandoned it in 1883. All the buildings were moved here to preserve them for the public. The building are full of things that were used by people that lived in the area over the years. Sure was fun to see all the things and read the history of the people.
