Spending Money

We got a call from the tire store I had called and ordered new tires for the motorhome yesterday. They said the tires were in and I could bring the motorhome down and get them. Well as the weather was bad and light rain we decided to go get them put on. All went good and we now have new tires and an empty bank account. Wow they sure are proud of them tires. But at least they are on and we are safer as the old tires were weather cracking and I didn't want to blow one on the road. All for now.

Moved again

We left the DC area on Tuesday and drove to Dover PA. at Gettysburg Farm RV Park and got all set up by 1:00. We got a real nice site and think we will like it here just fine. This is a working farm with lots of animals. They have Lamas, Pigs, Goats, Ducks, Chickens, Rabbits and lots of others. It is fun to walk around and see them all. Yesterday  we went to the Harley Assembly Plant and took the tour. It was fun to see how the put them together. This plant makes the Dresser, Soft Tail and Trike. It only takes them a little over 2 hours to put one together. That dose not include the making of the frame, fenders, tanks and paint. That takes much longer than the assembly. It was nice to see where some of my bikes were made. We will be going to the Gettysburg battle field soon to get all that history and will post about that when we do it. I will also be getting new tires for the Motor Home here. So yes I will be broke here too. Of course that is the reason I could not get the Hope Diamond that Gloria wanted that she saw in DC.

More Looking

CLICK HERE TO SEE PICTURES OF DC

Yesterday I jumped on the Subway and rode to the National Zoo. It was easy to get around DC on the subway and got me right to where I wanted to go. The Zoo was good but I don't think it was as good as the Denver Zoo. For the National Zoo it was not all that great. They did have Pandas but not much more than Denver. I have set a link at the top so you can see pictures we took in DC. Hope you will like them.
Tomorrow we will be packing up to head to Gettysburg for two weeks. Should be fun and lots to see.

Yesterday back to DC

We made our second trip to DC. We decided to just go to the Moments around the area. First we went to see the Whitehouse. Got to get some pictures of the south lawn and the White House. No Obama didn't come out to wave to me but then again he probably knew I didn't vote for him. Then off to the Lincoln Memorial, that was impressive to say the least. Then I did the Vietnam Memorial and the Wall. Had to say Good Bye to some friends. What a place to see. Also did the Korean Memorial, also very impressive. Drove by the WWII Memorial and didn't realize how big that one was. All these places make you sit back and wonder about Peace. Like Roosevelt said Freedom is not Free. So many of our fighting men paid the price so we can enjoy it. And to top it all off we went to Arlington National Cemetery where lots of them are buried. This was the peak of the trip and got to see the changing of the guard at the Unknown Solider. All I can say is WOW. Also saw the Kennedy grave and also Audie Murphy grave. There are places where the stones go on forever it seems.

More Touristing

Ok we have been seeing lot of history around the area. The other day we went to Jamestown to see what all was there. We went to the Jamestown Settlement that was actually an island. It is the first English settlement in the US. It was built in 1607 and used till 1699 as the capital but ceased to exist after the capital moved in 1699. But people still lived here and farmed and thing like that. I will let you read about all the history on this link  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamestown,_Virginia  It will be easer.  It is now a Archeological site that has found thousands of things.

We did some ridding around the island but it was way too hot and humid for us so we went back home.
Yesterday we took the truck and went to Fort Monroe in Hampton VA. It was built in 1819 and was the largest stone fort built in the US by 1834. There was a fort here before that called Fort Algernourne in 1609. Robert E Lee was stationed here during its construction and Jefferson Davis was imprisoned here at the end of the Civil War. Fort Monroe is the newest National Park in the country. Go here to see the entire story  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Monroe

We also went to General MacArthurs Memorial in Norfolk  VA. This is where he and his wife are buried and has all the history on this great man. The web site is  http://www.macarthurmemorial.org/
