Got in some sight seeing in

Weather has been a bit bad the last few days so we have not done much. But on Thursday it was nice so we took the bike for a ride. We first went to a place called Dingmans Falls in the Delaware Water Gap National park. It was a nice ride and as luck would have it when we got there they were having a guided tour by a ranger so we joined in. He first took up to a small water fall called Silver Thread Falls. It is a nice narrow falls that I liked the best. He told us how the water cut out the rocks to make the falls. Then we went to the Dingmans Falls which was larger but more flat. From there you could walk up some 700 steps to get to the top and look down on it. Not that great a view but ok.

Then we rode across the Delaware River to the New Jersey side and headed south on Old Mine Road. It takes you about 20 miles to I80 and then back to camp. The road was a bit rough but you got to see some nice things. You run into an old town called Millbrook Village. The town was started around 1832 and was a farm town. Farmers would bring food here to trade and sell. The National Park Service and Millbrook Village Society have rebuilt the town and made it a place you can tour at no cost.
It was a good day and a nice ride even though Gloria did not like the road being so rough.

Here for two weeks

Well we left yesterday and drove to East Stroudsburg PA and got all set up in Timothy Lake South. It is a large park but not much to do. Most of the things to do are in the sister park about one mile up the road. Not real busy here right now but will fill up on the weekend I am sure. Will keep you all informed on what we do as things happen.

More looking around

Yesterday we took a trip to Indian Echo Caverns not too far away from us. It was nice but not as good as some of the other ones we have gone to. Gloria decided not to go in as there was lots of stairs to climb. So I did the tour and got some pictures of the inside. After that we decided to go on to the National Civil War Museum. We were glad we did as it was one of the best we have seen so far. There were videos that followed sever people through the war and told there story. Also lots of artifacts from the war and written accounts of lots of the battles. Some of them were the small ones you never hear about.
I have to admit that while on this trip we have learned lots about the discovery of our country and the Revolutionary War and Civil War. It has been a great experience to stand on the ground where so much history was made. I have to admit the Civil War was the most depressing for me as it was Americans fighting Americans and a war I feel should never have happened. I feel the slavery thing had no place in the country according to the Constitution (All men are created equal). but it did and I sure hope nothing like this ever happens again.

YUM

We took a trip to Hershey PA and toured the Hershey Chocolate World. You get to see lots there and get some candy too. Ok the candy thing was the best. We took the trolley that takes you around the town and shows you places that Milton Hershey lived and built. They have a great show they put on during the tour that will keep you laughing all the time. It was a great tour. We also went to the Hershey University and got our Masters Degree in tasting. Ok it was not a hard course and the tasting was great. We also did the visual tour by moving rail cars of the process of making chocolate. That also was lots of fun and the 4D movie was a hoot. It stars Mr. Reese Miss Kiss and of course Mr. Hershey Bar. They also have a Amusement Park that has some 11 Roller Coasters and other things. No we did not do that but it seemed lots of kids were going there even though it was raining. The street lights on Chocolate Ave. are Hershey Kisses. One is wrapped and the next one is unwrapped.
Yesterday we took a drive around the area to just see all the farms and farm lands. We have never seen such large barns. The houses look little compared to them. We also stopped by Turkey Hill Ice Cream Experience. You get to see displays on how they make the ice cream and eat all the ice cream you want as well as all the ice tea you want. This was lots of fun and the face that if you have a military ID you can get in for free made it even better. I even got to find out I still remember how to milk a Cow. It was not a real cow but it works about the same. Will try to keep you up to dated on what we are doing as it happens. At least today it is sunny and dry for once.

We have moved to a new lacation

Well we left Dover PA. yesterday and moved to our next location. We are now in Lebanon PA. at the Hershey RV Park. Yes we are real close to the Hershey factory. But I have to say we don't like Pa. all that much. It is real green and has lots of farms and corn fields but the reason is it rains a lot and it is real Humid. We got here yesterday and it was hot and humid and you did not want to be outside at all. Today it is rainy but not much humidity. Hope it gets better so we can go see some things.

Trip to Langcaster PA

CLICK HERE TO SEE PICTURES OF THIS AREA

Yesterday we drove to Lancaster PA. to see the Amish farming area. We took a tour bus from the visitors center  for a 90 minute tour. Our driver Joe was a wealth of information. He drove us all over the area and told us all about the Amish people and there customs and rules. Wow they seem to be great people and live a simple life with out all the stress we seem to have.
We will be leaving here on Tuesday and heading for Hershey PA. for two weeks. I have added a link at the top so you can see pictures of our stay here.

Gettysburg PA.

Yesterday we took the bike to Gettysburg Battle Field. Wow what a place, the museum is great and they have made the battle field like it was when the battle was fought. They have had building taken down and power lines removed. The Museum has tons of stuff and stories of what all happened there. It was real interesting for sure. We took a tour of the battle field by bus and learned about things that happened there and when it happened. It didn't stop at very many moments but the ones it did stop at were great. We learned lots and saw how it all unfolded.  In the museum we saw a movie of the battle and then they took us up stairs to see the Cyclorama. It is a painting that goes 360 degrees around you. It was painted in 1864 by a French painter and restored and hung in the museum. It was amazing to say the least. It was like standing on Cemetery Hill looking at the battle. We will probably take the truck and go back and drive the tour rout to see more of the monuments.

Today was Bristol's birthday and he turned 5. So Gloria got him a can of special cat food and put candles in it for him. He sure liked that.
